The Way of the Bodhisattva - Teaching series by Khenpo Gyaltsen
Rangjung Yeshe Oddiyana (RYO) is pleased to be organising a series of six teaching sessions by Khenpo Gyaltsen on Shantideva’s renowned Bodhicaryavatara (‘The Way of the Bodhisattva’). This work, which has been cherished by Buddhist masters since its composition in the seventh century, teaches the core beliefs and practices of the Mahayana—love and compassion, wisdom, generosity, and patience. In these teachings, Khenpo will pass on the important lineage of this text and elucidate its most vital points.

Khenpo Gyaltsen, who hails from Nubri (at the border of Nepal and Tibet), was ordained as a monk at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery at the age of nine. He completed his elementary education in language and rituals at the monastery, and served in all the major positions in the monastery including as chopon (shrine master) and four years' as gekug (disciplinarian). During this time, he also studied various Buddhist philosophical texts with Khenpo Choga which then inspired him to continue philosophical studies. At the age of twenty-five, he went to Sera Je College in India to study for four years. He then completed the entire Buddhist philosophical course at Ngagyur Nyingma Institute over ten years, graduating as a Lopon (which is equivalent to a Master's degree). Thereafter, he served as a teacher at the Institute for three years, after which he was awarded the title of Khenpo (which is equivalent to a full professor). As a Khenpo, he served the Institute for a year and then returned to Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery to head the Sangye Yeshe Monastic College. Khenpo Gyaltsen has also been teaching at the Rangjung Yeshe Institute since his return, and has wide experience teaching the ordained sangha and foreigners alike.
